Discussion

  1. What impacted you the most from this week’s sermon?

  2. Jesus describes Himself as “the true vine” and His Father as “the gardener”. What do these pictures teach us about our relationship with Jesus and the Father? What does it mean for us to “remain” or “abide” in Jesus as

  3. In verses 2–3, Jesus talks about the Father pruning fruitful branches. Why might pruning be necessary even in the life of a fruitful Christian? How have you experienced God’s pruning in your own life?

  4. Verse 5 says, “Apart from me you can do nothing.” What does that statement mean? Why is it so easy for Christians to try to produce spiritual fruit through their own strength?

  5. Verse 8 says, “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”  How does our fruit bring glory to God and how does our fruit demonstrate that we are disciples of Jesus?

  6. Verse 16 reminds us that Jesus “chose and appointed us to bear fruit that will last.”  As a follower of Christ, how does it feel knowing Jesus chose you to bear fruit? What does it look like to produce fruit that lasts?
